Today, Rosatom, Russia’s state nuclear corporation, is one of the Kremlin’s most critical and lavishly funded state-controlled corporations. It receives substantial government support and is run by members of President Putin’s inner circle.
Since the invasion of Ukraine, Rosatom has expanded its military segment, incorporating the development of components for non-nuclear weapons and other military technologies. Despite strict sanctions and restricted access to some Western markets, Rosatom continues to circumvent sanctions and maintain operations.
In its new report, Bellona analyzes the current status of Russia’s state nuclear corporation, including its role in war in Ukraine, its position in the Russian economy and energy sector, and its numerous projects abroad. The report also assesses the future prospects for Rosatom’s operations.
